Application of nanotechnology in different industries Ref.No.SSTCRC2627

1. Introduction

Nanotechnology is a rapidly advancing field that focuses on the manipulation of materials at the nanoscale (1–100 nm), where they exhibit unique properties such as high surface area, enhanced reactivity, and tunable optical and electrical behaviors. These features have enabled its integration into a wide range of industries. In medicine, nanocarriers are used for targeted drug delivery, cancer therapy, and diagnostic imaging. In electronics, nanoscale transistors, quantum dots, and nanowires support device miniaturization and faster computing. The energy sector benefits from nanomaterials like graphene and carbon nanotubes, which improve the efficiency of batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells. Similarly, environmental engineering employs nanoparticles for water purification, air filtration, and pollutant degradation. In food and agriculture, nanotechnology contributes to improved packaging, detection of contaminants, and the development of nano-fertilizers and pesticides, while in textiles and consumer goods, nanoscale coatings provide antimicrobial, UV-protective, and water-resistant properties.

The main research objective in this area is to investigate how nanotechnology can provide sustainable and efficient solutions while offering new functionalities across industries. The broader significance lies in translating nanoscale science into practical technologies that enhance industrial performance and socio-economic development. Similar studies have reported applications ranging from drug-loaded nanoparticles in healthcare to nanostructured electrodes in energy storage and photocatalysts in environmental cleanup. These findings highlight nanotechnology as a multidisciplinary platform capable of reshaping multiple sectors simultaneously.

2. Research Progress

Several sections of the project have already been completed, including the background, objectives, and initial review of nanotechnology applications across different industries. Drafts of related topics have also been prepared in a structured form. However, certain sections are still pending and will be completed upon request, based on specific requirements or additional inputs. These include deeper analyses of selected industrial applications, detailed comparisons with existing studies, and the integration of supporting references. In this way, the project is partially complete, and the remaining parts will be finalized step by step according to the research plan and requested focus areas.

3. Cooperation Required

Financial support is required to carry forward this project.

4. Benefits

The project is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of how nanotechnology can be applied across different industries and what benefits it can deliver. The outcomes will highlight the role of nanoscale materials in improving healthcare, energy, environment, agriculture, and consumer products. The results will also help identify current challenges and opportunities, offering insights for future research and industrial development. In practical terms, this project will contribute to bridging fundamental nanoscience with real-world applications, supporting innovation and sustainable growth across multiple sectors.

5. Outputs

The project is anticipated to generate a significant number of high-quality academic contributions and practical outcomes. Specifically, it is expected to produce more than 10 review papers in well-recognized journals, focusing on different aspects of nanotechnology and its industrial applications. In addition, the project will deliver more than 5 original research papers presenting experimental findings, case studies, and applied approaches.
